Elli E. Bourlai
My work as a Computational Linguist and Data Analysis Consultant focuses on Text Analytics or Text Mining. More specifically, I am working on improving Sentiment Analysis, Named Entity Recognition, and Text Classification by leveraging linguistic information hidden in text patterns. My role also includes preparing training material and leading workshops.
My work is informed by my research in Computer-mediated Communication: using Natural Language Processing to study discourse and social identity, as well as the collection and design of corpora. My doctoral thesis explores gender in computer-mediated discourse from a diachronic viewpoint. I am currently interested in conversational AI, and improving the comprehension and use of social context with knowledge graphs. Other research interests include data science, social tagging, multimodality, social media mining, social informatics, and the relationship of gender and computerization/technology.
